Artist: Frederic Edwin Church
("Niagara" - Oil on canvas, c.1867)
A member of the Hudson River School of painters, and renowned painter of the wonder and beauty of an unspoiled Early America, Church's art speaks of the wild soul of this country that was so visible before European colonization. This painting was based on a drawing Church made while visiting Niagara in the summer of 1856. It is currently the only major example of Church's work in a European Public Collection.
